DAILY COURIER – Elon Musk looks set to quit as CEO of Twitter after asking the website’s users to decide his future at the company.
Musk started a poll on Twitter, asking if he should “step down as head of Twitter”. He promised that he would “abide by the results of this poll”, which ended on Monday.
After setting up the poll, Musk wrote: “Going forward, there will be a vote for major policy changes. My apologies. Won’t happen again.”
He also followed up by writing: “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it.”
Although final poll results were 57.5 percent in favour of Musk quitting, he has yet to announce his next steps.
There is no insight into who will take the reins should Musk come good on his promise. The tech tycoon only took control of the company in October.
Popular artificial intelligence researcher and podcast host Lex Fridman offered to temporarily run the website free of charge.
Musk is currently the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter. He is also president of the charitable Musk Foundation.
