DAILY COURIER – Five more abducted passengers of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack have been freed.

Terrorists had on March 28, attacked the ill fated train. Several persons were killed, dozens injured, while others were abducted.

However, security agencies and the Federal Government are yet to confirm the latest development..

But Tukur Mamu, the Publisher of Kaduna-based Desert Herald and Media Consultant to controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, who withdrew as one of the negotiators, confirmed the release of the five hostages.

Mamu told Channels Television that the victims were released on Tuesday, August 2nd.

He gave the names of the five released hostages as Professor Mustapha Umar Imam, who is a Medical Staff at the Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto; Akibu Lawal, Abubakar Ahmed, Rufai Mukthar Shu’aibu and Sidi Aminu Sharif.

Mamu, who said he played a prominent role in the release of the victims, said he has backed out due to threats to his life, personal integrity and lack of support from the Federal Government.

It is, however, not clear if any money was paid to the terrorists to release their abducted victims.
