Daily Courier – The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Dikko, has clarified that gas and not a bomb exploded in the state on Tuesday morning.

He made the clarification during his visitation to the scene of the incident.

Dikko, who spoke in Hausa, also confirmed that four persons died from the explosion.

The explosion, which occurred near a private secondary school, Winners School, destroyed a residential building and affected part of the school.

The explosion occurred around 9:30 am with many schoolchildren affected.

Visuals of the incident showed several injured schoolchildren crying for help.

Some parents were seen rushing to the scene to rescue their children.

“Where are my children?” one parent shouted.

The CP said that rescue workers were working to remove people trapped at the building where the explosion occurred.

Meanwhile, reactions have trailed the incident on social media.

A former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, said, “The unfortunate incident in Kano was a gas explosion, not a bomb blast, the Kano State Police Commissioner has confirmed.”

Uncle Deji @DejiAdesogan tweeted, “#Kano State Police Commissioner Sama’ila Dikko visited the scene of the explosion in Sabon Gari this morning and claimed it was a Gas Cylinder Explosion NOT Bomb Blast that affected a primary school with several casualties recorded.”

Collins Ezeanah @The_Calvary1 said, “I stay in Sabon Gari, Kano. The explosion shook our house. Students died. This country won’t be the end of us. We didn’t commit any crime being Nigerians.”
