Tayo Busayo, Abuja – The chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Walid Jibrin, has resigned from his position.
Senator Jibrin disclosed this at the ongoing meeting of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja.
Sources familiar with the ongoing developments, said Former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara (South East) has emerged the Acting Chairman of the party’s BoT.
Jibrin’s resignation came amid calls by aggrieved members of the party for leadership balance in the PDP.
DAILY COURIER reports that some PDP governors, led by Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, have been agitating for structural balance in the PDP to reflect national outlook as a way to resolve the party’s post convention crisis over the choice of former Vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, as its Presidential Candidate.
The BoT chairman, who offered to resign for peace to reign in the party, had said he had only six months left in his tenure, which he was ready to sacrifice.
