DAILY COURIER – Teranga Lions of Senegal will be without their star forward Sadio Mane at this year’s Qatar 2022 World Cup, after picking up an injury while in action for Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
Mane had to be forced off during Bayern Munich’s 6-1 victory over Werder Bremen.
Bayern’s assistant coach Dino Toppmoller had suggested after the game that Mane had been hit on the leg” and that the injury was “not too serious.
Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann suggested scans would be needed to determine the extent of the injury.
“That’s an unpleasant spot, it radiates a bit into the muscles. I think he has to go to the X-ray to see if there is something there, because it is splintering easily. But I hope that nothing is wrong. I can’t say anything for sure yet.”
But on Wednesday morning, French outlet L’Equipe claim Mane has now been ruled out of the tournament which starts on November 20.
Mane was instrumental in Senegal’s qualification for the World Cup after scoring the decisive spot kick which saw them overcome Egypt on penalties.
Also, he netted the winning spot kick which saw Senegal beat Egypt in this year’s AFCON in Cameroon.
Senegal are in Group A at the World Cup with Netherlands, Ecuador and hosts Qatar.
