Daily Courier – The Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar  Aliyu Thursday assured residents of Maiduguri that Power supply will soon be restored to Maiduguri, in Borno State in a matter of six weeks.

Aliyu gave the assurance while receiving the Vice Chancellor, Borno State University, Prof. Umar Kyari Sandabe in Abuja.

The VC led his Management team to the Honourable Minister’s Office on Thursday 23rd June, 2022 at Power House, Abuja.

The assistant director (press), Odutayo Oluseyi quoted the Minister as saying that Independent Power Plants projects are currently being handled through the policy on Off grid and Mini grid.

Chronicling the operations of the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry noted further  that all efforts are in gear to restore Power to Maiduguri.

He said, “This is expected to be concluded in about 6 weeks’ time.

“The Mini grid will adequately cater for all renewables as the Rural Electrification Agency has been directed to explore ways at which the State universities will benefit from the Energizing Education Policy of the Federal Government.

In his own remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Borno State University, Prof. Umar Kyari Sandabe appreciated the Minister unrelenting efforts at reforming the Power Sector.

He said, “The institution has been out of power supply since 2020 due to the insurgency.

“The University has been on generators which takes a huge sum of its funding yet could not provide adequate and needed electricity power for the University operations,”

The  VC thereafter appealed to the Minister on quick power supply restoration, promising to secure all power projects within its premises.
