DAILY COURIER – The inability of eligible customer to key into regulation stipulated by the Federal Government has become a source of worry to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) lately.
An official of NERC who expressed the Commission’s frustration, added that he was not authorized to speak on the matter.
It would be recall that the government while introducing the initiative in 2017 said it was to allow electricity generation companies (GenCos) and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to sell electricity directly to “Eligible Customers” as defined by the regulation.
An unconfirmed report has it that the objective of the regulation from the onset has been to provide standard rules to achieve competition in the supply of electricity.
But our reporter’s investigation indicated that some years after, it as if nothing is working, as power still remained stranded.
Although this medium learnt that stakeholders in the power industry are working towards eliminating some of the hurdles, our reporter insisted that governments is yet to take the advantage of NDPHC plants located strategically across the regions.
