DAILY COURIER – At least one person has been reported injured, during a clash between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

 

Recall that the APC, led by its governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, had last Friday, said it would storm the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) this Monday, to demand the release of Certified True Copies of documents used for the March 18 governorship election to enable the party file processes at the election petition tribunal.

 

But members of the PDP, on Monday, embarked on a protest in front of the INEC office, along Aba Road, demanding a joint inspection of election materials by all political parties.

 

THEWILL gathered that while the protest festered, Cole and the state APC Chairman, Emeka Beke and other party leaders showed up at the GRA area of Aba Road and were proceeding to the INEC office.

 

According to sources, the PDP protesting youths, who sighted Cole raced in his direction, and pelted stones and water sachets at him.

 

While the security operatives attached to him shielded and whisked him into the vehicle, the protesters continued pelting sachet water in his direction.

 

An eyewitness claimed that one of the security men attached to Cole fired a shot at one of the protesters who was advancing towards him. He was reportedly injured in his leg.

 

It took the intervention of soldiers of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, operatives of the Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who arrived at the scene to disperse the protesters.
