Jane Otu, Calabar – Against the backdrop of the devastating and rampaging flood that has submerged most parts of the state, the Bayelsa state government has fixed November 21, 2022, as the new date for private and public primary and secondary schools within the state to return from the earlier six-week flood holiday.

The extension may not be unconnected with the slow pace, with which the 2022 floods are receding in virtually all parts of the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Dr Gentle Emelah, urging operators of private sectors to maintain the government-approved new calendar and charging all stakeholders in the educational sector to be vigilant and ensure strict adherence to all schools safety regulations in the face of the snail-pace receding flood.

The statement reads, “The government, therefore, wishes to empathise with all Bayelsans who have been affected in one way or the other by this unfortunate natural disaster.”
