Daily Courier – The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Prof Sandy Onor, has unveiled Emana Amahwe as his running mate in the 2023 governorship election.
The presentation took place at the state secretariat of the party before party faithful.
Speaking during the presentation, Prof Onor said that Emana Amahwe was chosen as his running mate after consultation with the leaders of the party in Cross River and other stakeholders, describing the decision as part of the drive to change the narrative in the state.
“I must announce that in making this decision there was no segment of the party that was not reached.
“Anyone who has experience in political mobilisation knows that you cannot truly mobilise without the strength of women.
“We are looking for ways and means of changing the narrative on not just taking the state back to the golden days but thinking of ways we can make it better.
“We needed a double barrel proposition, wanted a woman that will appeal to the youths a s women enough,” he said.
He stressed that with the choice of Emana Amahwe the party is coasting to victory.
In his response, Venatius Ikem, the State Chairman of the party, welcomed Emana Amahwe on board. He said God has a way of raising people they did not expect to unexpected heights.
He said one of the greatest tasks they faced in their 10 months in the saddle of the party was midwifing the process for the general election successfully.
On her part, Amahwe accepted the offer to become the deputy governorship candidate of the party. She thanked Prof Onor for finding her worthy, saying that many battles had been won and her choice as deputy governor pushed the statement across.
