Daily Courier – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Anambra have urged the party leadership to uphold the will of the people by adopting delegates in the list produced from party’s ward and local government congresses.

Former PDP spokesman Olisa Metuh made the call while speaking with journalists shortly after the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) members met with PDP stakeholders in Anambra.

He explained that the stakeholders believed there was no issue, but for the NWC to endorse the delegates’ list produced from the ward and state congresses for the party’s primary.

In his comments after the meeting with the NWC and the national chairman, Mr Metuh said the Anambra delegates’ election at ward and local government levels are valid because due processes were followed but what is left is conduct of primaries.

He,however, noted they were wowed by dilly-dallying of the process, on the grounds that an interlocutory order was in place to recognise a different faction which afterward a court judgment recognised and the same list backed by INEC.

Metuh said that the reluctance of the NWC and the national chairman gave them the impression of bringing the matter to the public domain, to make an appeal to both the NWC and the national chairman to adopt the wishes of the people of the ward, and local government congresses are valid as announced.

“We have noticed the unwillingness on the part of the Working Committee and the national chairman to proceed with the process hence the need for us to go public and plead with the national chairman and the National Working Committee as the custodians of the party administration to please effect the will of the people and recognize the ward and local government Congresses”.

He noted that the continuous reluctance will translate that there is a conspiracy to put the state in chaos and playing to the hustle of god-fatherism.

“It’s imperative that the national chairman and the National Working Committee to obey that list which is the wish of the people, any other thing will mean that is a conspiracy to throw our state into a competition and uphold Godfather over the will and wishes of Anambra people”.

According to him, the national chairman and the NWC should accept the list, noting that democracy belongs to the people.

“The people have spoken, saying we all know what the people want, know the direction they want to go to in the national convention. We are pleading with the NWC to come to our aid, by backing the will of the people in Anambra state,” he stressed.

Daily Courier reports that the major opposition party in Nigeria, People Democratic Party PDP is still grappling with delegates list dispute baring less than 24 hours to the commencement of party primaries. However, there are plans to adjourn the date of PDP primaries to Sunday 22nd May, 2022 for State House of Assembly & House of Reps and Monday 23rd May, 2022 for Senate.
