DAILY COURIER – Nigerian Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali-Baba, is currently in a meeting with the leadership of all political parties and heads of security agencies in the country as well as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The ongoing meeting at the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, was summoned to discuss critical issues as they impact national security and the 2023 general elections.

It is expected to address recent violent political activities in some states, especially attacks on campaign rallies.

DAILY COURIER had reported that the campaign convoy of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was attacked in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. One of the PDP supporters was reportedly killed while others were injured.

In Enugu, Ebonyi, Lagos and Rivers States, there were also reported attacks on party supporters and campaign materials, especially billboards.

The INEC had earlier in the week, expressed concern over the violent activities, warning that they pose a serious threat to the 2023 elections.
