DAILY COURIER – President Muhammadu Buhari has directed security agencies to ensure a safe electoral exercise for Nigerians and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

 

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, made this known while briefing State House correspondents after the National Security Council’s meeting, chaired by the President on Wednesday, at the Aso Villa, Abuja.

 

The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, also said the council was satisfied with the level of security nationwide, therefore, elections would be held in a safe atmosphere.

 

According to Malami, enough preparations have been made ahead of Saturday’s polls.

 

Asked about the Supreme Court hearing, which has been adjourned to March 3, 2023, Malami said the decision of the court would be studied.

 

 

DAILY COURIER reports that President Buhari, on Wednesday, Presided over a meeting of the National Security Council Meeting at the State House in Abuja.

 

In attendance at the meeting were Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno and the Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari.

 

Also in attendance were the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (Rtd); Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; and Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, and the AGF, Abubakar Malami.

 

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, led the service chiefs including the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya; the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Samuel Adebayo, to the meeting.

 

IGP Baba; the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, also attended the meeting.
